Events

The College of St Aldhelm Actively participates in many events throughout the year,  in both the barony and the kingdom as a whole. The following are the regular yearly events which the college attends:

St Aldhelm Newcomer’s Feast

Run at the beginning of the year, the annual Newcomer’s Feast is a great first introduction to the events of the SCA. The afternoon often features the Heavy Fighting Championship, as well as a Rapier Tournament and Court. In the evening, there is a delicious feast with much loud singing merriment for all. This is a garbed event, but don’t panic if you havent got around to making that epic-embroidered-corsetted-frilly ballgown yet. Loaner garb is available by contacting the event steward.

Rowany Festival

Rowany Festival is the largest event in the Kingdom of Lochac, and is hosted by the Barony of Rowany every year during the Easter break.

Festival is huge. Anything you can think of which is medieval / reaissance (and legal), is there! There are Arts and Science Classes, Market Day, Taverns, Singing, Dancing and Drinking. There is also Various Heavy Fighting and Rapier Tournaments, Archery Tournaments and of course WAR!

Festival is a 5 day event so camping is essential. St Aldhelm often camps with the Combined Colleges so watch out for details in the weeks leading up to the event. We also run several “Eek! what the hell am I wearing to Festival?!?” sewing days.

Arts and Sciences Collegium

Join us in the Barony of Politarchopolis for a weekend full of A&S classes, demonstrations and workshops at the Tuggeranong Sea Scouts Hall in August! Come along and learn from some of the most talented artisans and teachers in Lochac, with classes covering a multitude of topics, time periods, and interests! The agenda has something for everyone.

A booking includes lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and a place at the Feast on Saturday night with fantastic food and entertainment!

St Vitas Dance and Music Weekend

In mid september the Barronly converges for the St Vitas Dance and Music Weekend. Two days of dance and dance related classes as well as music classes, plus food and more music and dancing. All held at the Tuggeranong Sea Scouts hall. Classes Start at 10am. There will be a Feast and Ball on the Saturday night and lunch will be served both days.

Fields of Gold

In November – December, the Barony of Politarchopolis hosts one of Lochac’s premier fighting events Fields of Gold at the Bungendore Showground in Bungendore, NSW.
This full weekend of tournaments includes heavy armoured, rapier, equestrian and archery skill at arms. Show your prowess in as many disciplines as you can for the chance to win the title of Champion d’Or.

Apart from the spectacle of the tournament there will also be a chance for the magnificent artisans of the kingdom to showcase their fine works with a competition simply themed Gold and to expand their skills with classes running throughout the weekend.

There will also be training in several of the martial arts including armoured combat & equestrian skill-at-arms.

On Saturday night there is the Feast of the Golden Gryphon to snare all the senses. The Bold Gryphon Tavern will be open for the whole weekend and on Saturday night will serve those that either miss out on, or would rather eat at the Tavern than partake of, the delights of the Feast.

The event is fully catered from Friday dinner to Sunday lunch and camping is available, although most Aldhelmites just make the 45 minute drive to Bungendore each day.
